Monkeying Around In Jozani Forest

Centrally located on the island of Zanzibar, the Jozani Forest is home to over 2,000 Red Colobus monkeys. Unlike other black and white Colobus monkeys found across Africa, the red monkey is unique to Zanzibar. The forest is protected by the Jozani-Chwaka National Park and was declared a nature reserve in the 1960’s. The only one of its kind on the island! There are many tours available to book from Stonetown, otherwise your hotel should be able to help arrange a taxi for you. Alternatively, hire a car like we did and drive there yourself. As you approach the entrance […]

Phong Nha Ke Bang: National Park Tour

With only two days to spend in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, we decided to join an organized tour group to spend a full day out and about seeing the caves. We originally wanted to join the 7km in depth trek through Paradise Cave, however we missed out on that specific trip as we frustratingly didn’t realise the tour only departed on certain days of the week which didn’t coincide with our visit, so we were sadly unable to join that trip. Instead, we joined a National Park Tour that would take us to see the highlights of the […]

Exploring Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park

Without a doubt, the highlight of our two-and-a-half-week trip to Vietnam was our time spent in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. The only regret we had was not staying for longer! Located in central Vietnam, I would recommend a visit to anyone travelling the well-trodden route from north to south (or visa-versa!). Why Visit Phong Nha National Park? Travelling for me is ultimately about seeing new places and experiencing new things. Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park is all about caving, and as I’ve never visited such a large caving system before, this was something new that I could […]

Best Budget Farmstay in Phong Nha National Park

If you are planning a visit to Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, one of Vietnam’s natural wonders, then you might want to consider staying at a farmstay. Don’t be fooled by thinking this is some country style farm complete with hack stacks and cows – you couldn’t be more wrong! If you have already considered accommodation options, then you’ll note that Phong Nha village itself is very small, but does offer a number of affordable hostels and guesthouses. This is great if you are travelling on a budget, but step outside the main village and you’ll be greeted with endless […]

Three Days In Masai Mara National Park

Following on from a few other posts I’ve written about my trip to Tanzania and Kenya, I thought I’d go into a little more detail about our 72 hours in Masai Mara to give you a better idea of what our safari experience was really like! Day One It had already been a long 5-hour drive from Lake Naivasha, including two hours of driving off road on an extremely bumpy dirt track, but our guide kindly offered to take a detour to our hotel and take us on an impromptu game drive. As soon as we entered the park we […]
