Meet The Rescue Lions of Drakenstein

Sometimes I wonder if I should change the theme of my blog from just travel related content, to travel and animal content. I have a massive passion for animals, and pretty much love them all. If you are furry and friendly looking, then I’m going to like you before I’ve even met you! Adam and I have just come back from an epic two weeks in South Africa. We spent five days on safari, and then also visited a number of other animal sanctuaries. Despite racking up quite a chunk of hours on safari, we spotted loads of wild game, […]

Paradise Wildlife Park

Paradise Wildlife Park

My close friends will already know how much I love animals (mainly the furry ones, not the reptiles so much), so this weekend Adam and I visited the Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. I stumbled across the park a few months ago, and have wanted to visit ever since. So off we went! Tickets cost £15.95 per adult / £14.30 per child, but you can save 10% by booking online in advance. Make sure you tick the gift aid box too to ensure the park can reclaim 25p tax for every £1 spent! Once through the Welcome Centre, you’ll […]

How Much Does A Safari Really Cost?

I can’t believe it’s been almost a year already, but last October I headed to Africa for the first time with Adam and two of my close friends, Gemma & Alex. Our trip included a 10-night beach break to Zanzibar, followed by a 6-night visit to Kenya to go on safari – this was one mega trip that we were all very excited for! We researched numerous safari options taking into account what would be the most cost effective, the best value for money, the most comfortable, and ultimately give us the best experience. Despite joining a G-Adventure tour group in […]

Three Days In Masai Mara National Park

Following on from a few other posts I’ve written about my trip to Tanzania and Kenya, I thought I’d go into a little more detail about our 72 hours in Masai Mara to give you a better idea of what our safari experience was really like! Day One It had already been a long 5-hour drive from Lake Naivasha, including two hours of driving off road on an extremely bumpy dirt track, but our guide kindly offered to take a detour to our hotel and take us on an impromptu game drive. As soon as we entered the park we […]

My Kenyan Safari Overview

As a mahoosive animal lover it somehow amazes me that I never really considered going on a safari before last year. Zanzibar had been on my bucket list for years, but the rest of Africa has never really appealed to me for some reason. In fact, I think back to my third date with my current boyfriend where he drove me 3 hours to the West Midland Safari & Lesiure Park in the middle of England, because in the short time he’d got to know me (all 3 weeks), I’d obviously expressed my passion for animals. I’m even sat here […]

Vinpearl Safari In Phu Quoc

Our visit to Phu Quoc wasn’t quite as we planned as we were over shadowed by a thunderstorm that seemed to linger for a few days. We managed to avoid most of the storm with the exception of one day we hired a scooter to explore the island. Typical!! It seemed the further north we travelled, the darker the clouds became and the heavier the scattered drizzle fell. Before we knew it, we were driving through a full on tropical downpour, raindrops flying at us like pellets whilst we wore nothing more than a bikini and sundress (me!) and shorts & […]

Borneo Orangutan Care Project

I would never usually stay at a 5 star hotel such as the Shangri-La chain, but when the opportunity arose I clearly jumped at the chance! I visited Borneo back in 2007 on a short stopover to Australia, and at the time there was a bizarre offer for a free stay at the hotel when booking internal flights with Malaysian Airlines. The stunning Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort & Spa in Kota Kinabalu is located on Pantai Dalit Beach. The hotel sits on a private corner of the island surrounded by 400 acres of tropical rainforest. Some visitors may enjoy the […]
